I am trying to date the emblem from an old Coldspot that was used as a syrup evaporator by my grandfather. All that is left is the shell and emblem. I'm hoping someone here might have a date range or lead on finding one photos.app.goo.gl/6p44G4ucrfq9RhA39That should link to the picture.

Interesting. I don't know the year, but have shared with some fellow experts who might be able to help. Will reply with any info we get!
How does a syrup evaporator work?

In the case of this, my grandfather cut a hole in the bottom for smoke to exit, put a flat pan in the opening where the door was, and fed the fire through the top. Maple sap went in the pan and was boiled down to syrup. This was in the mid 60s and the refrigerator was found in the woods at that time which makes it pre 1960 I'm thinking. I will try to add a picture of what is left of the body to the link.

I was able to add a picture of what's left, it has the general shape of an old monitor top,the top is long gone though.

It looks pretty sad from a fridge collector's perspective, but fascinating that it was used as a syrup evaporator. That is very likely a 30's model. The compressor would have been up top. Probably an open-drive SO2 system. Maybe a Sunbeam unit.

I agree, it's sad to see the old ones go. I have a 1932? GE monitor top I'm hoping to restore, now that I know this forum is here I'm sure I'll be asking questions about that one.

Well, I think I found a coldspot cabinet that is in worse shape than mine lol. I would agree with 30s. I’ve never been able to date mine, but I am thinking early 30s. Mine has the same badge.

That's awesome! Thank you. From the black and white picture it looked like a pretty sleek unit. It's a shame it's in the condition it is...

Very neat book. Thanks for sharing that! I think you're right about his being the 860C from '34.

Gill! Thank you so much! Now I know what mine is. Same exact model from 1934. You can tell because it has the two shelves in the door and the exterior styling is spot on. Now I know what year mine is too!

I also thank Mr. Gill. That book allowed me to date my Kelvinator to 1932, I previously narrowed to about 1933. Now I know. Thanks again!
