Hi All, I saved my first CA from the scrap bin. I was able to get her running with a little effort, but I'm in the market for a start relay. The one in the picture does not function. Also, if anyone has an interior light from a donor cabinet, I am in need of this too. You will see in the pictures below, someone ripped it out of my cabinet. "Help Me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're My Only Hope" Cheers Rich

I’m so thankful to joneske for helping me secure an original light socket for my CA monitor top! Even have great advice to rebuilt the boot.
I’m still on the hunt for a CA type A relay, but that might be a unicorn.
This MT is coming along and I am lucky to have this. It a HT-70-A cabinet which has sliding shelves, porcelain, and all the accessories. I’ve been researching on the forum and I will explore getting the shelves re-plated in zinc locally.
Has anyone else done this? I wonder how much it will cost. I really should’ve asked this in another thread, but I want people to know I secured the light.
Cheer, Rich

I will explore getting the shelves re-plated in zinc locally. I had the shelves re-plated in zinc for both my CA's back in 2013. They have lasted very well with no visible deterioration. I can't remember how much it cost, but I didn't think it was expensive at the time. It was done by an old fashioned electroplating shop near where I used to work.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll be sure to share my progress, cost, and some before and after photos.
I know I’m only recreating what others have done, but hopefully it will be helpful or interesting to others.

Evening, is the relay in the pic the only 1 u have. I think thats an R relay. You may check the connections to be sure its wired right. I think it may need to be in a vertical position to work right. I probably have an original relay. Ill look tomarrow and send u a pic.

Actually, this is a G type relay that someone tried repurposing. It was “secured” with iron galvanized plumbers tie down.
Certainly a Mickey Mouse job to start, but it never fired up, even after I cleaned the contacts etc.
The only way the unit has turned on is with the supco Ro81.
If you happen to have an original relay, I’d be ecstatic. The force flows strong with this one.

Woohoo. I think this would work perfectly and it is the exact dimension of my missing unit. I’ll Direct message my info.

I’m sure I could always solder on new contacts if I needed to?
I’d rather go original so it will mount properly.

Even though they look the same, the form A and form B relays are different because of the gravitational pull on the contacts, in the case of the form A type. In fact, when installing the later type R relay on a form A machine, it's supposed to be used with a bracket to mount it vertically. Further details are on page 11 of the manual. One could probably interchange the relays if they were readjusted to operate at the correct current.

Just curious, if the A and B have the same coil and the contact are the same, gravity may play a unnoticeable difference in the function of the contacts. Maybe a gap difference ?

It would be something like that, or the spring tension. The 58X121 relay fitted to 60 cycle CA form B machines is also known as the type E3, which is described in the Scotch Yoke manual on page 70. It was also used in the LK Lift Top. The adjustment is for pulling in at 6A and dropping out with a minimum of 5A. Presumably, if the horizontally mounted 58X14 from a CA form A was used a replacement, it should work provided it was adjusted to those currents. If a non standard relay is used or modified, it would be wise to check it over a range of line voltages just to make sure it's working correctly. It would be a real shame to burn out a motor because the start winding didn't disconnect.
