Hello, So I've noticed there's a slight delay from when the relay makes contact to compressor start.
What can cause this?

How much of a delay? Would it be possible to post a Youtube video of it?

Hello, So I've noticed there's a slight delay from when the relay makes contact to compressor start. What can cause this? Hi Josh. I have had a few CA's which have a delayed start. They all make a loud buzzing noise before starting up. I think there is some mechanical wear which has happened to the machine; causing this. If yours doesn't make any buzzing while it's trying to start up, the delay is likely something in the relay not making contact. As Chris said, a video with sound would be great!

Yea, they all have the funky buzzing on start, it's the unloader vibrating in the strong magnetic field. Here's my 1933 doing it. youtu.be/y2LWjT3e7uQ

I'll have to take a quick video later. I saw a few clips on YouTube that started up real quick and I got worried.
Before I made a makeshift cover I would see an arch frome time to time. I cleaned att the contacts and that stopped. Still on the lookout for the actual cover tho.

If the start up is slow it can indicate the presence of NCG's loading the compressor excessively.

Does weather play a part in this? Its not a consistent issue. Today I've noticed start up is very crisp. Last night there was maybe a bit less than a second of lag between contact and compressor winding.

Last night there was maybe a bit less than a second of lag between contact and compressor winding. My experience has been that it does. CA's are normally sensitive to ambient temperature, and the effects of NCG building up seem to be much more prominent in hot weather. In the case of NCG build up, the start delay gets longer over a couple of days and then the compressor stalls on startup.
