so i have been interested in balltops recently. i saw this balltop on facebook marketplace for 200, and after asking about more info, the person says it works and that the absolute lowest they will go is 175 (i tried for 100) do you think it would be worth the price?

It looks like the evaporator is bent a little and the front right leg took a hit of some sort.
Id want to see it in person to see what's up. $175 maybe if it runs and can be straightened out.

It's a toss-up at that price. These are known for broken lines at the evaporator. The bent evaporator is a very bad sign that the top was dropped or allowed to fall off the cabinet and catch the lines. It would be extremely dicey to try and straighten the evaporator; so you will likely have to live with a damaged unit like that. I would definitely not pay more than $100 or $150 for that due to the damage which may not be repairable without specialist tools and refrigeration skills.

heres an update if yall are curious. the seller contacted me and offered 130 for it. I went down and took a look and all of your hypotheses were correct. the evaporator was broken off the two rivets on the right (no leaks and it still worked) and there was a ton of hidden rust on the bottom of the cabinet. i touched a bit of flaking paint on the front bottom and it crumbled into a rust hole i could stick my thumb in. the bottom was really weak feeling, and also had rust cracks. it looked like the entire bottom probably got rusted from the inside. the door and the inside were clean though. they were firm on 130 though, so i ended up not buying it.

It's good they contacted you again, but you were wise to pass on that unless you needed just a cooling unit for parts.

Ball tops almost always have rust issues. They all need to be refurbished, so yes, I would have likely brought it home.

The lowest I ever got a balltop for was $65, one for $150, another for $220. I don't even know if the cheap one works.
My only point is that they are notorious for rust issues and worn out controls.
