We have this model and it no longer is staying consistently cool. Is there any way to repair this? If so, where can I find resources or someone who can do the repair? We are in upstate NY Hi there. On this forum there are many resources which can help you with your CA machine. Also, 2 or 3 of us occasionally do repairs for others. Unfortunately I'm not sure of anyone in the upstate NY area. I'm in Alabama. Having said that, there are many fridges shipped around the country for repairs, so there is always that. Be warned that the few of us here are likely the ~only~ ones nationwide who will make any sort of internal repairs to a Monitor Top fridge. Most of the big-name shops will tell you it's unfixable or to mount some gosh-awful external compressor under the cabinet instead of repairing the original. How handy are you? The first thing to do when troubleshooting a CA machine is to ensure the non-condensable gas bleeding procedure has been done.

Non condensable gases, the oil heater, and the float valve are the three key aspects of CA machines. I doubt there would be many CA's operating properly in the present day which have not had the NCG's purged. Many of the oil heaters failed long ago, and this needs to be tested, and replaced if necessary, to prevent long term damage. Purging and heater replacement are not difficult, but things get a bit more complicated if the float valve is worn, though it's perfectly fixable. Most refrigeration mechanics won't touch it since the CA is unlike any other domestic fridge they would have worked on. It has some unusual quirks, like the the low pressure system and methyl formate refrigerant. However, all the information to repair these machines is available on this forum if you feel like an interesting project. It sounds like if your machine was working OK until recently, it just needs a purge and confirmation the heater is working.
