Prints are back from Shapeways.com Blue on the right is printed in Versatile Plastic. Middle knob is printed in Detailed Plastic. The points on the exterior of the knob are a little too sharp. I redesigned and have more coming. The 3d prints will need to be painted likely to get a closer color match. Still haven't worked out the best way to do the infill. Flood filling with a syringe may be the best option but is messy. Costs for printing each knob should be $7-10 depending the plastic. Shapeways has all kinds of materials. You can get a knob printed in gold or platinum if you're looking for that extra bling. Multicolor prints are possible but too expensive for my tastes at $100. If there's interest, I'll post the texture files. Once I get the design dialed in, I'll try an FDM print in ABS and PLA. The version 2 STL can be found here: V2 STLI received the resin this week for the casting of the original knob. The plan is to cast in urethane resin. I'm looking forward to trying the color match to the cornflower blue. I've got two molds ready to go but it will likely take a few iterations to work out the sprueing and orientation. I hope to have time this weekend to work on the color matching. More pics then.

Thanks guys, I've been playing with colors trying to sneak up on the right color. The tints are UV resistant so hopefully the color will hold up over time. Looks like #13 is good enough for the next prototypes. I'm trying a new resin that really likes to bubble when it kicks so ignore the darker spots. The actual color will be closer to the lighter shade on the edges or between the bubbles. The goal is to color match the back of the button as the original color. This one is pretty close. The bubbles can be mitigated by casting under pressure. Unfortunately that means I'll likely have to redo the molds. I'd didn't cure the molds under pressure so when I cast under pressure the entrained bubbles in the mold may compress. I'll pressure cast using them to see how bad it will be though. Next steps are to make 5-10 duplicates for a multi-part mold and then cast the final pieces. I've got a fair bit of resin so I'm going to use it.
