I have completed a cap tube conversion on a methyl formate machine and it runs excellent and quiet again! (Thank you so much for the advice!) The evaporator is running down to just above zero degrees, and yet the machine runs on and on. I thought the bellows may have failed, but, after bringing the entire cabinet down to 30 degrees, it shut off by itself! Is there a way to calibrate these thermostats so I will have a fridge again instead of a freezer???!!! I have the lead from the thermostat clamped where it originally was, but the upper portion of that does not seem as if it was touching the evaporator before aside from where it clamps. Should I bend it so it hugs the evaporator for the full length of the thermostat bulb/pigtail? Is there a way to change the setting on the "coldness" knob? What is my next step now that I know the thermostat will shut the unit down and is functioning? Any help here would be much appreciated.

The way that the sensing bulb is clamped on is very critical. As long as it is good and tight and is in the same position, that should be fine. You can adjust the thermostat but it’s best to make sure that the bulb is clamped correctly first. To adjust the thermostat, you first unplug the machine because the screw that holds it on is live. Then Take a very small pick and pry the center cap out of the temperature knob. Be careful not to chip or damage it. It’s very easy to chip. Then figure out where the current temperature should relate to which number on the dial. So yours is running too cold. Remove the screw. Pull the knob off and put the knob back on 9. Even then it may still be a little cold but that would be the highest setting now. Does that make sense?
