Hello, I am loving the cap tube conversion for the single door /evap unit CA machines! Has anyone tried to switch over a dual evaporator model from a larger machine to a cap tube? I am wondering if this would take the same length cap tube or if it should be longer like in standard refrigeration practice? Any help/ guidance would be appreciated.

As far as I know; they didn't make a CA-3 of any type. The larger cabinets went from DR-3 to CK-35 machines. The CA wouldn't have enough power to handle two evaporators, I wouldn't expect. The DR-3 and CK-35 have more horsepower than the smaller machines do; to support the larger capacity. As for the cap tube, that's going to depend on the compressor HP and refrigerant type. There would need to be a tee after the cap tube on the low side, to divide the cap tube discharge across the two evaporators. But again, the CA compressor and condensing unit would have a hard time keeping up.

OK, I will take pictures of the unit I have. It is on a four door and it has two evaporators. It does use methyl-formate for the refrigerant according to the tag on the relay, and it does have a tee at the evaporators where the refrigerant is directed both ways. I will try to get pics today.

The early CK-30 and CK35 used the same E3 relay as the CA form B machines. I wonder if at some time a CA relay (or relay cover) has ended up on this machine. If it's legitimately methyl formate it would have an oil heater in the base of the compressor (and an access plug for it in the neck between the cabinet top and condenser). As far as is known, there was only ever one size CA compressor, used for up to 8 cu. ft. cabinets. It will be interesting to see the pics.

Fingers crossed for that size 3 CA!

Fingers crossed for that size 3 CA! That would be a veritable unicorn!

Single door, dual evaporator.
I've got a feeling he means a CA-2.........
Although, a tee for the evaporators has me very curious. It would be interesting to see a bigger CA.

It’s got to be a CK35B unit.
