What gauge steel was used for CG cabinets? My measurements ranged from 0.040 - 0.48". I'm guessing 18 or 19 gauge steel.

I assume you’re replacing the bottom. That’s what fails on them.

I assume you’re replacing the bottom. That’s what fails on them. Yes, I planned to cut off the rotten, rusted bottom inch of metal. I'll replace it with new sheet steel. I plan to stitch-weld new material using a flux core MIG welder, then grind, sand, prime, and paint the original color. I also planned to build a new bottom frame out of strap steel, and hide it under the sheet metal. Strap steel will spread the weight across the entire cabinet so the legs don't fold like they did when the sheet metal rusted out. I'll tap new holes for the leg bolts into the strap steel. So, I needed the sheet steel gauge to properly match the cabinet.

I’ve never pulled one apart to measure the metal. I do know it’s thinner than the other monitor tops.

It would appear that 18 or 19 gauge is correct, as shown below. Without the paint, this gauge slips off, so 19 might be closest.

I like your idea of reinforcing the bottom. I was planning on just putting a stainless steel plate over the bottom of mine on the inside. I was thinking 3/16 and welding it in and then retapping for the feet . Recommend going to a scrap yard,last time I went I picked up a piece of stainless steel 3/16 for 8$ It would have been more than enough for the fridge. But my mower deck took press dent. Just be careful of the heat warpage , but I’m sure if you welded much your aware of that .

I ended up using the stainless plate on my mower deck . It was rusted away. So I lined the under side with the stainless plate and welded it in place . It’s a 2001 toro 52 inch zero turn .
