So...this Lil guy followed me home today. I was glad to take it in. The Grandson of original owners told me his Grandpa told him they bought it new in 1928. Grandson used it for couple years until the cord got bad and he unplugged it. I'm excited it has all 3 shelves! Control looks good shape.....not broke. I made a new cord and plugged it in. I could hear faint popping after 10 min....so I guess the heater is good. I will leave it plugged in overnight and fire up tomorrow. I am adding link with pics. I will add video later. 1928 DR-1

That’s great. It looks to be 1931-32 based on the hardware. DR1’s weren’t made until 1929.

It looks great,it’s amazing after all the years it still looks so good. They are one of my favorite looking MTs like the open coil. Hopefully it preforms as well as it looks .

Travis....thanks for the information...I was going by the information that I got when I bought it. I'm ok with it being a '31 model.

Travis.....Have you figured out how to date by serial numbers? There has to be way. All appliances were date coded in some way.

I don’t pay attention to the serial numbers. I’ve had inconsistent findings that way. Part of this is due to units often being swapped on cabinets.
I do know the evolution of the hardware. That guides me more than anything. If your DR1 is a form B, then it isn’t a 29 or early DR1.

Seems that many different models of units have been put in the Parts Blender and then re-assembled with whatever came out first!

Also....we don't know that some units were pieced together with the previous years unit, cabinet, hardware etc...there were so many changes made throughout the evolution in the early days.

Yes, things happen since the initial production, but a DR1 form B with the deco hardware indicates 1930 to 32.
The actual year doesn’t matter. I’ve only tried to determine age to understand the evolution of the changes. A DR1 form A unit with a type D control is the oldest.
