I recently purchased what I thought to be a 1927 DR-2-S16 GE. Maybe the experts can tell from the pics. I'm attaching a link. Thanks guys. I'm excited...as I live in Texas and these Antique fridges do not come on the market very often. Thanks again!

That’s nice, most likely 28-29.

Thanks Travis...as much as I wanted it to be a '27....I'm ok with '28 or '29. Still my oldest Monitor Top. I added 2 pics. One is of a paper lable by the float chamber that says its a rebuilt unit...I wonder if it's original to the cabinet??....there's NO way of knowing this information...even if and expert on Monitor Tops. The second tag is inside above the door...it has the serial # of the cabinet. The heater was out....so today I got the old one out and a new one in...it's currently heating up...and will turn on tomorrow and see if she runs. Thanks for any info you guys can give.

Travis....what year did the badge go from Icing Unit.....to Refrigerating Unit??

Yours was rebuilt in 43. They typically lost the icing unit badge during that process. I think they went to the refrigerating unit badge by 29.
The cabinet hardware isn’t the strap hinge so it’s not 27. The early info is a guess and unclear.

Thank you for the info.I got very little info when I bought it. The guy said it was him Grandparents, but quite possibly the great Grandparents. He remembers being little and they kept it stocked with sodas for them. I wonder if many had to be rebuilt back then??

You have to remember that during the war materials were not available or rationed. Many DRs were rebuilt as were many CAs. I’m not sure when the rebuild process stopped. I would guess around the production of the FEA as a replacement unit.

Makes sense....my Great Grandpa had a contract and sold iron to Capitol City Iron in Austin,Tex to help with the war effort.

That is a nice Monitor Top! I wonder what they did in the rebuild. Looks like the evap and control didn't change. Maybe a float repair? Do you know if it is a welded or bolted dome? If its a bolted dome they could have even went inside to fix it.

Thanks Coldspaces! I was so excited to get it home. I will see if I can tell tomorrow if it's bolted or welded. I pray by tomorrow it's heated good and starts up.

Initial start-up is good. Lil bit noisy, but getting quieter the longer it runs. Getting cold starting at front of freezer. I posted a video on the Link. I need to adjust the top contact that drops out when started. As far as I know this fridge sat idle for over 10 yrs...but who knows. I'm just elated that she's going!! Thanks to the help of the expert guys on this forum!!

Coldspaces....I added 2 pics of where the dome meets the top.. I believe this is bolted? Which would mean you are correct that it could have been opened up during rebuild process. I also believe the paint was reshot afterwards since the badge looks painted over. I added pic of temp probe in freezer sitting at 30+ after 30 minutes of start-up. The top seals are shot...so that will get some attention soon. Another piece of American history saved! This one will stay with me and get used from time to time. Thanks for all the help and information. This forum is full of great knowledgeable people....and friendly!Sooo... A Big Howdy from Texas Y'all!!
