So i bought a globe top on Facebook for $50.
And now I just acquired this FEA yesterday. The owner recently moved in and offered this for free. I was the second person to contact him and I happened to see the list 13 min after he posted it.
I am a professional mover and I figured it would be no problem for me to move once I know that the compressor comes off. This one is bigger than the globe top. I have an appliance handtruck. It’s pretty heavy. I am guessing it weighs 250-300 lbs. The stairs had 2 turns. I had taken the door off also. The legs were already off and the bottom is very rusted. I assume someone moved it into the basement, years before and wicking rusted the bottom. So I am wondering if it was working when it went down into the basement. The compressor was installed backwards. (Meaning the control knob was in the back. ) so these 2 facts lead me to believe it was broken when it was put in the basement. The compressor top seemed to stick as of it had been sitting there in the wrong orientation for some time.

26” deep x 34” wide x 41” high ice box base
Plus legs = 6”
Plus compressor = 10.5
57.5 height total
The base cabinet has a plate that reads:
Type G-75
G7 number 29158
The compressor has a plate that reads:
FEA-2-B16
SN 44-406-772
I see this thread Is a great intro monitortop.freeforums.net/thread/1057/inheriting-ge-fea-run-garage
Which Also shows how to oil monitortop.freeforums.net/thread/334/oil-fea-condenser-fan-motor
I haven’t plugged it in yet.
I see by the model number this is from 1945 and it takes R12.
I’ll start with cleaning and oiling. The power cord seemed to be in good condition but stiff.
Any other advice in getting the mechanicals working?
Any idea when the base cabinet is from?
