So my Monitor Top is living in my garage in central Illinois this winter. I have not shut it off since I finished replacing the contacts in the control November 17th. And no my garage is not heated unless I am working out there. So far it has been working great, doesn't have to run a whole lot though. The coldest I have found it in the garage when I went out there so far has been about 37 F.
I have been surprised that there are no sounds of any liquid refrigerant in the oil. I know my 15 watt drain heater is still working in the heater well by the reading on the watt meter. Now I am wondering if this would be the case if it was still charged with so2. I know the so2 and mineral oil do not mix well but could the r-134a and mineral oil combination like each other less and be less likely to cause problems in my cold garage? Not sure but thought you would be interested to know it has been working good so far even at temps in the 30s

I still have the 32 plugged in my garage even though we are seeing - 17F at night. During recent cold snaps when the garage was about 30F the the unit takes so long to start that the sound of refrigerant boiling in the evap almost stops before the compressor comes back on for the next cycle. This morning the garage was 22F and all sounds of refrigerant boiling had ceased. Tonight I ran the heat for a while at 50f and the unit started once after I opened the door several times.
At no time was there any strange sounds at all to suggest that the oil could have liquid refrigerant boiling out of it. Sure runs quite with no head pressure to speak of in the cold garage.
