hey all, if anybody can offer a down and dirty re-wiring lesson, it is a steak dinner on me. I need it to be basic, like, remove the top, remove the cover from the starting relay and remove the panel by the off and on switch and remove old wiring, etc. i can't track the technical stuff that is just out of my league. for instance, using a voltmeter check the reverse polarity of the neutron wire. i just don't get electrical speak but i can remove a wire and replace one i just need some guidance and encouragement. like how many wires are there to replace and they run from where to where? and like do i need approximately 80 feet of wire or just a few feet? i have replaced the heater wire before and made a new power plug but now it's time for a full rewire. many thanks. JESSE

Hi Jesse! It's a very simple machine. There are two independant systems in the CA. One is (of course) the cooling unit. The other is the oil heater. Everything originates from the back of the starting relay. This relay is the box, mounted on the back of the unit, where the power cord attaches. The oil heater has a 2-wire cord from the back of the relay, to the oil heater. The compressor has a 3-wire cord from the relay, to the compressor, and then continuing on to the thermostat. There are a few great threads on here showing CK rewiring. the CA is very similar. Everybody has their own way they prefer to attack the wiring job. There are many "right ways" to accomplish this; with what's easiest for one person being not the best choice for the next guy. Look through this thread and pick the technique you feel most comfortable with. monitortop.freeforums.net/thread/723/re-wired-ckSincerely, David

This is what is inside the cabinet top of a CA form B www.flickr.com/photos/13469158@N05/48791067292/in/dateposted-public/Although I've not worked on one, I believe the form A machine uses separate cotton/rubber wires rather than the rubber cable of the CA-B and CK. Despite that, the wiring connections are the same. I have only ever rewired them with the evaporator and top plate removed, but others here have done it with everything in place. Just be careful not to stress the low side connection of the evaporator, when attempting to move the top plate out of the way to get access.
