There's a rubber plug just under the condenser at the back in some models, or you remove the General Electric plate at the front under the condenser. This exposes a hole where you can hook the heater out from. The wet insulation won't cause a problem with the heater provided the wires have good insulation. Aside from that, wet insulation is something you want to sort out fairly soon. You don't want to end up with it like this:

looks like i may have to get a small HF engine hoist to lift it off. once i have all the covers and sides off, is there some compatible insulation i should be using? fiberglass? foam board?
