Happy weekend, all! My DR2 acquisition seems to be humming along nicely now - just needs a little paintwork and I'll call it good. Thanks to everyone for the tips on getting it freed-up. It's working great now with a 100uf cap in place of the burned-out wirewound resistor.
I know several of you guys use engine hoists to lift the tops. I was looking closely at mine yesterday, wondering where the safest lifting points are. I noticed that there's a little metal stud welded (or at least pressed) between two sets of condenser fins - one on each side - exactly opposite one another. I assume this is where the factory intended these to be lifted by. Is that still the preferred point? I was thinking that a snap hook carabiner hooked around those studs on either side, attached to a chain, would be OK and not mar-up the new paint too badly once I paint it. I own a shop with an above-ground vehicle hoist, so my plan was to raise the hoist to a height above the fridge, wheel it under, and use one leg of the hoist to raise it off for me, then lower it back down onto a wooden box where I can paint it. Thoughts?

Yes, that's exactly right. Those studs are the intended lifting points. Here's our DRA2, right after removing it from the car (with the chain in "low headroom" configuration). Out of curiosity, is your unit an older one, with the "pig" evaporator like this?

Excellent - thanks! And yes, mine is a DR2,Form E, with a pig evap. Running beautifully now - I only need to find (someday) a new bakelite body for the "tower", as mine is broken (fairly common I think). Someone must've thought it would look cool to leave the condenser coils in bare copper during a previous repaint, but that will be going back to factory correct when I repaint it.
I wish I could attach some pics for you, but that feature seems to no long work on here. Thanks again for the lift info!

Yes, we are trying to deal with the issue of attaching pictures now. It has been an ongoing problem. For now you can post pictures to google drive or Flickr if you want to share a link on here.
