So I bought a storage unit at auction here in Nevada, huge unit some very cool stuff, paid peanuts. and it had this unit in it. Not sure what to do with it, figure I will fiddle with is some over the winter only think that appears to be crappy is it seems like the paint is an enamel or just real old, dull to the touch and holds the dirt a lot. doubt it runs.. has some wires hanging down inside the box, Thoughts?

Glad you got a CG in the storage unit! These were known for having control problems; so someone may have been fighting that problem when they took the wiring down in the inside. It's based on the Scotch Yoke compressor which seems to be GE's most reliable model. Should be able to get it going!

Ok I am finally looking at this project. its been a busy year. all the photos are linked here photos.app.goo.gl/GoszxD9dLCNETq3u6It is my guess a previous owner started this project since it is in remarkable shape on the inside all the screws look new, (in photos) my assumption is the control problems listed in the post above by coldspacesstep one for me this is ---too many questions, but the important one (for me) is is there a source for the GE Badge that would go on the globe band?

Rep I was right someone replaced the insulation with Styrofoam, and it appears the electrical wires may have been the problem they are toast. ... Looks like the PO replaced insulation, and never suggessfully hooked up the wires, I wlill rewire this rather easy, and the push pull knob is seemingly in good shape. Does anyone have a good way to remove the top it is damn heavy

Thanks. Picking up a chain hoist tomorrow my engine crane is too narrow.
Does the on off pull - function as the thermostat as well?

Top is off wiring in the base is looking pretty good some ham handed work done I am replacing with vintage look updated (porcelain light socket shattered stuck together with RTV) looking at replacing the existing plug into the Bakelite female socket with a modern three prong, will stick with cloth covered, but it will be behind the unit so I am less concerned.
Upper box looks good, dry very little rust paper insulation is still intact and shows no sign of moisture.
Waiting on a few things then I'll plug it in and give is a shot.
Certainly looking at paint, thoughts on sandblast and spray epoxy paint?

Yes, the push pull control also functions as the start relay and cold control. However, it is not adjustable. There is an internal adjustment but you have to open up the control to get to that. That is part of the reason why this was the cheap seats model.

The knurled knob is the temperature adjustment. Be aware that the contacts always seem to be bad on these.
