Wow, it's all done and back up and running. Few little things to finish up in the comming weeks. I want to replace the insolation and make a new cardboard seal. 20hrs running so far, run times are 8 on 14 off. Set on 5 - cab temp 38-40. Low side frosting just at the base of the tank. Bottom 3 tubes on compressor stay cold for 3min into cycle. Float chamber as well. Going to purge tomorrow. Just noticed a dent in the compressor coil tubeing. How likely is this to effect cooling? Glad it's up and running!
It does sound like it needs some purging, based on the cool condenser passes and float chamber.
The dented tubing won't matter at all, unless it's severe and "closed off" so to speak!

Turbo, Thank you. It looks like about a 30% aclusion at the 3rd level from the top. Rubbing hearts below that point, same as above the dent.
I have light frosting on the bottom of the low side tank. It becomes heavy about 2 fingers down from the tank. Still no constant warmth in the lower 3 rings or float chamber.

The condenser all the way down to the float should feel warm once it's free of NCG.

I did 3 rounds, float chamber got warm and I stopped.

Perfect! The compressor will thank you.

Turbo, After those purges it was still cool once it stabilized.
Its holding temp for setting 5. Also it's much quieter than befor the rewire and replacing the heater. Only issue is the cycle times and frost line.

Only issue is the cycle times and frost line. Hi Josh. It's normal for the condenser to be less evenly hot due to the lower loads on the unit when it's stabilized. The purging process requires much more heat loading; resulting in enough heat to warm the entire condenser; assuming no NCG's are stuck in it. When it's cooling down a warm cabinet (after startup) or has extra heat being added, then it's important for the whole condenser to get hot. Sorry if I wasn't clear earlier.
With it having been purged, and the new heater in operation; you've preserved the life of the compressor. That's always a good thing!
As for the cycle times, there's a chance the float valve is leaking. Most of the CA's have a certain amount of leakage after the years. If it turns out to be too much of a leak, there are repair processes to address this. The only problem is; they require opening the system. Most likely, it will serve as-is for a very long time!
Sincerely, David

David, Thank you very much! I was suprized when the frost dropped down. Was concerned I lost a lot of MF as, to me it smells very similar to sewing machine oil.
Next step is replacing the old insolation in the top and making new no-ox-id cloth. Currently I have foam weather stripping between the cab and top plate. Lucky it's not over frosting. Swapped the door seal with the lowes double D. I'm not that happy with the door, it's a bit slanted.

The MF, to me, smells more like a dry-erase marker. There is a lot of mineral oil in the machine as well; which may be what you were smelling as well.
The door hinges often suffer wear. I've had to make bushings for a few. It really helps with latch functionality and door gasket life when the door is true.

Just noticed a dent in the compressor coil tubeing. How likely is this to effect cooling? My CA-2 has such a dent when it was dropped. Considering the restriction in a piece of capillary tubing, the dent would have to be really severe for it to interfere with the operation. I hope the cycling times improve once purged - about half the running time would be good.
