Does anybody have any information pertaining to early SW fridges? I picked this little one up last week, it stands about 5 feet tall, has a belt driven compressor, low side float metering device, was originally so2. The only model number I could find was on the compressor skid which lists it as a model 86000. I've searched the internet pretty thoroughly and I haven't been able to find anything about it, and hardly anything about SW fridges in general...

I have a SW. I think it's a 1937. I haven't done anything with it yet. Mine is missing the control.

Mine is a complete running unit, it fortunately even has the glass tray for the evaporator. I was able to find some pictures of 37-38 units and mine certainly looks earlier, but again that is all guesswork because I can't find any information on it.

Sounds nice. There’s not much out there about them.

The fact that both of you have them makes me want to research it and find out some more information about the company. Very interesting fridges to be sure.

It is an interesting little machine, I didn't know SW even made fridges. From the scant information I've found, I believe it to be a 32 or 33. I know I was certainly spoiled by the wealth of information available on monitor tops when I was researching my CK.

I realize you may have problems posting pictures here, but could you share a link to a picture of yours? Is it a belt-drive unit?
If I remember, these have an interesting rotary compressor, somewhat like the Norge Rollator; but slightly different...
Sincerely, David

That would be a great piece for him to have, to go with that S-W fridge. That book looks to be in good shape, as well.

I would definitely commit to that book ASAP or it may be snagged by another. Happens all the time.
Sadly, the link isn't working. EDIT: Apparently you fixed the link while I was typing that LOL!

Thanks for the pictures! That is super-nice. It's working, as well I see!
I get a lot of enjoyment out of repairing the old belt-drives. I'm curious about yours. What have you had to do to get it going? What refrigerant is in it?
Have you seen my Frigidaire and Norge repairs?
Sincerely, David

It had a partial charge of so2 in it when I got it. Enough to cool the evaporator down a little bit but that was about it, so I disposed of the so2 and charged it back up with a painful amount of r12. I had to replace the starting capacitor, and from what I can tell something got hung in the needle seat a few days ago but I believe I convinced it to pass it. I have seen your repairs, I have essentially read this entire forum out of fascination since I found it last year when I got my monitor top.

That’s impressive that you were able to get it up and going. I hope it continues to work for you. Very neat fridge.

I also read almost all the forum when I first found it. Moved from that to rebuilding fridges and visiting other members on road trips. It's a real positive, uncommon situation that the shaft seal is good in your unit. That's been the Achilles Heel in all the ones I've located. It's very fortunate that the R12 was heavy enough to lift the low-side float and make it work properly. One of our members has a Frigidaire with low-side float which was charged with R12, unmodified, and it does not work properly due to density problems. Please, when you have time, make a video for us. That would be awesome! Sincerely, David
