I just bought westinghouse bp-55 it was cheap. I ohm tested the compressor two terminals of the motor have zero ohms and has a short to the outside of the compressor case. Any suggestion for a replacement compressor or more modern replacement compressor I have 4 working soda machine compressor laying around could one those work. I gauges ,vacuum pump and done some hvac work.

Hi there. It seems the older Westinghouse compressors have this as a common failure mode. Another member has loaned me one with this failure mode. I will be analyzing it to see if the motor terminals are at fault and there could be a repair possibility.
The soda machine compressors are likely larger (in capacity) than the original from the Westinghouse. They might work but might not be ideal.

I would like to keep the old compressor if possible. The terminals are clean on oil or rust I did open service valve a little it still has charge of so2. I read the thread mentioned above so maybe there chance it could be saved with some help.

I'll try to determine feasibility of a repair. It would require removing the SO2 and going with a less reactive refrigerant, but should be able to keep the original compressor. One of the neat things about these old fridges is the sound they have. Changing the compressor to something else is just killing the nature of the machine.

It we’ll be interesting to see if you get yours fixed. I know there’s a lot of the old Westinghouse’s out there with this problem. I’ve had one for a couple of years now.
