I want to buy some methal formate to have on hand in case I have a problem or a leak. I purged my system and the top screw was missing, I had oil in the primary screw area and some of it disappeared, my frost line fell and the float valve cover is cold again. Im not sure if I have a leak or if I didnt tighten the screw enough. Im one of those people who like to have what I need "just in case". Does anyone know where I can get MF?
Thanks again. Mike Kissel

Mike,
This has been answered numerous times. If you read some other posts in this section, the answer will be there.

monitortop.freeforums.net/post/14601/threadThere are also freon substitutes with similar temp/pressure characteristics, R11 or R123, others depending on availability. As noted by others, you need refrigerant purity, not cleaning solvent grade.

Could my 1933 ca run on r11 or r123 with out damaging the machine??? Maybe I could have it changed out. Do you need the heater with r11 or r123? Thanks

Yes, they work on R11 or R123 without damage, and the heater is still required.(Although it doesn't affect your particular machine, capillary tube modified CA's will need a change in length of capillary tube. Float valves automatically accommodate the change). The main reason anyone puts R11 or R123 in is because methyl formate is difficult to get, unless you work for a scientific or educational institution. It can also be more expensive. However, if the machine has not been open to the atmosphere or otherwise damaged, and has not been purged incorrectly, there's no need to change/add refrigerant.
