OK.....ever have one of those "I am such an Idiot" moments? I had my most recent one last night. After almost a month of delays, by replacement thermostat arrived. That is a long time to have ice chests in the kitchen.
So as I am removing the original thermostat I snip the power input wire (the one that is spliced to the power cord at the factory) to get the unit out. I remove the thermostat, roll it over, open it up to look inside. Looks really good actually. The contact points are a little black, but not bad. It looked good enough I got out my ohmmeter to double check. If you remember, earlier troubleshooting showed the thermostat was always in an "open" state. This time it checked fine. Open...short...open...short...every time I turned the knob.
That's when I realized it........since one of the wires going to the thermostat is spliced to the power cord, and does not stop/start at a relay terminal, my previous continuity check included the power cord. Now that the cord had been snipped off, the continuity of the thermostat checked fine.
A double check of the now snipped power cord showed one wire to have an "open". Crap....what an idiot. So tonight I will get some new cording, gently file the contact points (unless you think that is a bad idea), and put the original thermostat back into place. I will keep the new one as a spare.
Pay heed all....learn from my dumb mistake. Fortunately my wife is very forgiving..........the ice chests have been a real PITA.

Such are the joys of servicing . On a positive note, you get to keep the original control. As for filing the contacts, the procedure recommended for the relay contacts is probably a good method to follow:

OK...new power cord, new fan motor, original everything else and she purrs like a kitten. Working well. The problem with the old power cord was at the inline outlet that I believe was used on some models for the interior light. A solder let go.
I chose not to reuse this outlet as my unit does not have an interior light. It could certainly be repaired. If someone needs it, let me know and perhaps we can work something out.

Glad to here you no longer need an ice box. Hope it keeps on purring.

Just so happens I need one of those inline outlets for my CA-2. I've been using an extension cord socket but isn't very authentic.

I'm disassembling a FEA 2 B16 cooling unit for prep and paint for a gentleman who is doing a restoration. Before separating all of the unit pieces I checked performance. Condenser fan inop. all legs open circuit. Does anybody know of a direct replacement fan motor? I have little experience with FEA's.

If so you my have to replace it with a 2 watt shaded pole unit bearing motor. As far as I know from what I was reading in the manual (not an expert here) it should not hurt anything to just eliminate the extra wire that fed the 2nd phase in the motor. Coldspaces

Thanks. Yeah it's a 3 wire motor. totally dead. I'll see if I can find a suitable single ph replacement. I'll just use the run terminal, and neutral on the start relay.

Yes they look real similar. I'll have to get this apart and take measurements. Maybe even take it down to johnstone and match it up. Thank you!
