I feel like this is a AAA meeting Hi, my name is Josh and i too have an obsession with these beautiful machines! Joking of course! Mine started when i was about 7 i suppose. My dad has worked for our local cable company for 30 years now. One day he was at an old ladies house downtown and he seen an old fridge on the back porch. He thought it was cool so he was just asking about it. She told him that they had bought it new and it had ran there since new. It is a CK model. I remember when he brought it home on the back of the truck. At the time he didnt know the top came off, during the move, the top fell off into the truck and he thought he ruined it. (knowing what i know now, im suprised it didnt mess with the lines but it didnt!). Him and his friend got it up and put it in his garage and plugged it in and it started purring. I remember thinking how cool it was! Ive always admired that old rusty CK! That was 20 years ago! I never really paid it much attention throughout the years. Everyone that came over would comment about how cool it looked. Used it mainly for beer and wahtever else. Then last year I found MY first one online. It had a FEA unit on it, which hadnt ran since the 60s. I decided to get it anyhow even if it were just for looks. Got it home and cleaned it up, rewired the unit on top and got the fan unstuck. IT WORKED! That brought me back to my dads CK. By this time, the cabinet on his was beyond repair due to a rusted out bottom but the mechanism and the insides were like new. Soooo i decided to look for another CK model, I wanted the top for my immaculate cabinet and wanted the cabinet for his CK top! Found one finally 2 hours away and then found this thread. Now we have 3 cks and a FEA unit and parts cabinet. And for some reason Im STILL searching craigslist to get into the CA or DR world haha! Love my CK so much that i use it as my main fridge in my kitchen and dont miss my modern one a single bit! Thanks for all the knowledge everyone has put in this group! Best online forum ever!

There was a woodchuck living under our neighbor's shed. The woodchuck was nice and fat, thanks to my garden. With our neighborhood being tightly spaced housing and the neighbor in question being a cop (likely discharging a weapon there would be illegal, but not for him) I started dropping hints. At first, they were subtle. Things like, "I hear woodchuck tastes delicious." And "you see that woodchuck? I've got a crockpot about his size." Then I got a bit more assertive, "that woodchuck is fat from eating all my vegetables, I bet he's taste good if somebody got or him" and "I'd like that damned woodchuck dead." Then I got really assertive and said, "I'll cook that woodchuck for you if you shoot him." Then we moved out. Not because of the woodchuck or the neighbor, but for other reasons (work). I am still upset I never got my revenge on that rodent. We had a cop as a neighbor before our last move. He helped move my monitors out of the basement when we moved out. I bet it's a long day and a short one before he volunteers to help people move again........ (Well, I had helped him before, like the time the rear axle of the police car snapped off and the wheel rolled down to the storm drain as he backed out of his driveway-- )

I really liked living next door to the cop. He used to park his police cruiser in the driveway when he came home for lunch or to let the dog out.
I always figured someone would have to be beyond stupid to rob our house with a cop living next door.

jnorris, That is a very cool story, thanks for sharing. I can't believe that poor CK fell off your dad's truck and SURVIVED! Not only did it survive but it thrived. Try that with a modern compressor!

jnorris, That is a very cool story, thanks for sharing. I can't believe that poor CK fell off your dad's truck and SURVIVED! Not only did it survive but it thrived. Try that with a modern compressor! I dropped a 5-ton heat pump compressor (Bristol, 125 Lbs actual) off of a 2-story scaffold and it apparently survived. The commercial building only owned the property under the footprint of the building. They were compelled to build a platform above the alley to install 2, 5-ton heat pump condensers on, with a bit of room between them for service access. 2 stories up to clear truck traffic in the alley. I was hoisting a new compressor up (warranty replacement) with block-and-tackle and it hung under the edge of the platform; turned it to clear the edge and the lift ring on the compressor ripped out. Hit the pavement like a ton of bricks. It sustained a few obvious scuff marks on the top of the dome. I installed it anyway. What's the worst that could possibly happen? I take it back to the supplier and say "It came out of the box like this"? It worked fine on start-up, and for nearly a decade after, until it got struck by lightning. Again. Then replaced with the new SEER 13. But yeah, that was before most of the compressors came from China.
