Wow! All this discussion about a lightbulb. I've always just use 25 W appliance bulbs in mine. Thankfully on the older cabinets the DR's use, there isn't a lightbulb to worry about.
I once had a 1939 General Electric flat top that had a very old light bulb. It appeared to be a frosted 25 W bulb. That's enough to make me not want a DR. How the hell am I supposed to see to the far corners of the cabinet in my butler's pantry!??!

What the hell are you putting your poor refrigerator in the back of your Butler's pantry? Are you ashamed that everyone will see how old it is?

The Butler's pantry is a little room that joins the dining room with the kitchen. Are often an older nicer homes. They're also often turnedinto first floor bathrooms of those homes.
Sadly, I do not have a Butler's pantry. I was forced to put my monitor top in the kitchen for all to see.

Mine can be seen even from the front door and from the front porch as well as a few kitchen windows at the back of the house. Luckily that MT (CA from Brooklyn) is leaving next week and my actual working restored CA-2-A16 is coming home after 9 years.

Here is the official word on the light bulb, from the AK manual. And here are the bulbs in my CA-1 and CA-2:

So, here is the bulb I finally settled on. www.bulbs.com/product/15A-WL-120VPhilips 15A/WL 15 Watt, 120 Volt A15 Soft White Long Life Appliance Bulb I believe this to be the closest match to what the machines originally came with. And right now, Travis is laughing at me.

Chris, I agree with your choice in lightbulbs. I did not realize they made a frosted version of an appliance bulb. I guess I hadn't searched for one online before. I learned something new today.

I've got a frosted bulb in my CK-30. It seems to light the cabinet more evenly than the clear bulb I had in it before.

I know I will be shot but I got my bulletproof vest on. Try a 60 watt led, you will never go back.

It is definitely different in many ways, mainly in the compressor sound. It is different than any other CK I have ever heard and has very long 22 minute off cycles even with a 29 degree cabinet.

I bought the AK manual off ebay a little over 10yrs ago - well before I knew anything about monitor tops. It's a photocopy stapled together. I've referred to it quite a lot because before the CK and CA manuals appeared it's all I had. It does not contain many illustrations; just the cutaway of compressor & evap, and the cabinet dimensions chart. It's mostly typewritten text. I haven't scanned it only because all the same info is in the CK manual (except for the bit about the light bulb) and there doesn't seem to be much demand for AK specific information.

I know I will be shot but I got my bulletproof vest on. Try a 60 watt led, you will never go back. Na, you only risk getting shot on here if you bash the ball top. My objective was to make my MT look like it did when new, or as close to it as I can. LED's are tempting for my modern fridge though and maybe my second MT restoration. I had talked to cablehack and considered a 15 watt equivalent filament LED for the MT but decided against it for now.
