Excellent that the compressor is all OK. As for the control, I know very little about replacements - Coldspaces is knowledgeable on these and hopefully will be able to help.

Thanks guys. Thanks coldspaces, for the reference number of the mars controller. Member joneske has kindly sent me some info of a salvaged controller. Looks very similar to the original M1A163 cold control. I've sent some measurements. He sent some clear photos of the unit, not sure how to post them on here. Just wondered if there is any reason if it fit it wouldn't be suitable. Says its a max 1/2 hp.

We have confirmed that the sensing tube lengths are real close and the spacing of the mounting screws are the same. The numbers on the side of mine read CR1057821D-G63. The writing below that is worn away, but looks like Cat W9X17.
Does anyone know if this control will work for Karl's fridge?

Any thoughts on whether or not this control will work on this fridge?

I would think they would be close to the same but don't have any way too know for sure. The original control in listed in my Ranco cross. The M1A163 is replaced by the M1A199, dial at mid point 22 F on and 10.5F off. I have not been able to find your CR1057 # in my books or the W9X17. Could it be WR9X17, that crosses to a Mars # 26644, dial at midpoint 20F on and 9F off. Hope that helps.

Thank you to joneske for sending the thermostat cold control. On arrival looked very similar to the original M1A163. The main difference being the control knob, not one I've seen on the forum. Unfortunately the knob is too wide to fit through the dial plate on my cj. This will need a bit of thought to adapt. I've fitted the control, minus the knob, making note of the position. Taping up the front of the control, as I believe the dial screw is live. All safety in place, the capillary tube on these old controls are so much more substantial than the newer replacements. Sat really nicely under the evaporator clamp. Cycles are as follows Room temp around 70f 1st 24 on 12 off 6 on 15 off Then after a few hours averaging 4.30 on 20 off Cabinet temp 34. This is at cold setting around 3. This might need a little adjustment. The frost line has always been very good. Now just to look at the control knob. The original on this model was the same as the the later ck white with red pointer. Except the pointer was blue. The notches for switching the control off and pushing the defrost spring are incorporated into the base of the knob. Will try and post some pics. Going to have to get creative on this one.

I'm glad the control is working for you and hope you can get the knob figured out.
I definitely learned something about international shipping!

Kevin, thanks again for your efforts in sending the cold control. Would have really struggled to find a suitable replacement! I've had the cold control fixed in place without the knob for a while. Been running perfectly. Managed to find a suitable knob, had to be the right size to fit through the hole in the dial and look in keeping with the style of the fridge. Took some looking, I settled on a knob for a guitar amplifier. Filed the original knob down, leaving just the operating notches for off and defrost. Then fixed the new one in place. Sits back in place perfectly. Once settled, really pleased with the cycle times 4.30 on 33 off Temp 37f
