I had the thread " DR2 tear down" Now it's reassemble time. So far I replaced the bottom of the cabinet with new sheet metal, pulled new wires for the heater, did some painting and replaced the old fiber insulation with new modern insulation. I got a nice snug fit. I compressed the temp control bellows (made special c clamp) and mounted the temp unit where it belongs. THEN I plugged it overnight so the 15 watt heater could do its thing. Next day I put foam insulation around the icebox (photo) then I turned it ON It purred like a kitten. 45 minutes later I checked and temp in icebox was 25 degrees I bought rubber seals for door and compressor unit from McMaster Carr Never dealt with them before and had everything the next day! Still waiting on the nickle plating brightwork Also waiting on warm temperatures to finish painting Attachments:

Awesome! Glad to see it coming back together nicely. I expect it will look like new once painted!

OK the weather has been nice in central Pa so the painting is done, I installed the feet to the cabinet and inserted the inner part of the refrigerator. Next will be the black strips on the cabinet and door. Starting to look good!! Still waiting for brightwork. I have some round stains (Old beer cans?)on the bottom of inner cabinet in the porcelain is there a cure for this?

As for the round rust stains on the interior porcelain; you can use red Scotch-Brite scouring pads to remove that. Put some rust remover such as Evapo-Rust, or CLR on the cabinet floor, and the pad and scrub it.

Try Bar Keepers Friend. It is not too abrasive and uses oxalic acid to remove rust stains. I once had a double sideboard cast iron sink that the porcelain was completely orange and was able to make it white again, after several hours (days) of work using this stuff.

I’ve also had success laying paper laying several layers of paper towels down, soaking them I’m bleach them covering in plastic to allow it to remain wet for 8-10 hours. It’s an old floor car trick for pulling rust stains off stripped floors.

I’m late to the discussion but I’ve had good luck with glass cooktop cleaner. It specifically says it will clean porcelain too.

Getting closer. I put the black plastic strips on the door and cabinet. To get the holes to line up on the door I had to sand about 1/8" off the insulation. What a mess! BUT it looks good. My plater said I will have my bright work in 2 weeks. Next photos should be finished project!!!!!!!!!!!

With all that new insulation, it should have some impressive cycle times.

Question Were the original door rubber seals white?

Question Were the original door rubber seals white? That is a tough question. We were talking about this and it seems that "probably" the original factory gaskets were an off-white or beige color. Virtually all of these have had the gaskets replaced more than once over the years with a variety of cloth, leather, or rubber materials of varying colors, so it's hard to know. Looking away from historical correctness, I always think that the brown or black rubber gaskets look most appealing. Seems to me the white ones show dirt too easily. But that is just my opinion!

It took twice as long and twice the $$$ I thought it would. But I finally got my Nickle plating back.

Nice looking bright work. There is something to be said for nickel plating, it has a warmth, a slight hue, that is not there with chrome.

Does anybody have info on the door latch springs?? The ones that center the latch. I have nothing to go by mine were missing. If you look at my last photo of the nickel plating you can see the style of the latch. THANKS Norm
