Hi, I am new to this forum and I am not sure if I am in a forum that can even help me. I have a Kelvinator Royal Crown/ Nehi drink Cooler. I can find some online for sale, but I can't seem to find any forums for information or where to find parts. Mine is a 1950's era I do believe 180 bottle cooler (I think). It is in pretty rough shape metal wise. I have done many auto and aircraft restorations & or repairs. My plan for this machine is to strip it of its non working components, repair and paint the box. Then I would like to make a ice cooler out of it. For some purists this may not be the best use of an old machine, but it's mine & it's what I want to do with it. My curiosity has wondering if anyone else has done this? I have seen some Coke machines converted to vanity cabinets & even a parts cleaner. I do realize this forum is mostly for refrigerators, but thought there might be info here also for drink machine coolers. If I am in the wrong forum, maybe someone can direct to one better suited to my search. Thanks, dsbike

Hi there, welcome to our forum! That's a nice cooler you have there. I am not sure where, other than Facebook, that you will find an active and worthwhile drink box forum. As you expected, many will be disappointed that you plan to get rid of the cooling system from this cooler. I hope you will find someone to give it to who can use it on another vintage cooler. If you aren't averse to Facebook, this is a good group to look in: www.facebook.com/groups/91452871395 Sincerely, David

Thanks turbokinetic!!! I very well may trade or give away some of the parts from this cooler. The motor is intact but barely will turn, the compressor turns freely, and the evaporator coil is all there but most likely not in working order. This machine was in my father-in-laws carport at the beach for many many years. I am surprised there is as little rust as there is, I expected it to be much worse.

It is amazing that the whole cabinet isn't rusted out after that beach location for so long! I've restored many of these which were terribly rusted. We have a new liner made, and have the cabinet repaired by a body shop. The rest of the cooling system I refurbish, Normally that entails all new wiring, replacing all rusted out lines, and the fan motors. Sincerely, David
