Glad to see the unrepairable unit has made it home working! It was far from unrepairable. The issue was the ones who looked at it were unskilled. You would have got it going in a couple days as well.

Thanks David! That high gloss paint is totally unforgiving and the surface prep has to be very clean and smooth; I was pretty happy with how it turned out. Installed the manufacturer's plate yesterday after you cleaned the original up. Now everything looks and runs right.
I can't tell you how many times I've opened the door because I think it's stopped running; it's unbelievably quiet. Even after the compressor cycles on and I KNOW it's running, I can barely hear it.

I have a feeling that the failing solder joint has been an ongoing thing, possibly for decades. Quite likely the unit was working against some degree of non-condensable gas buildup all along; as more air seeped in at that solder joint. If this was the case, it would cause the noise level to be higher than it should be. Now that the non-condensable gas is gone, it is running like it should.

Another great job!!!!
perhaps if we can get enough people to realize these fridges are efficient and work well , than maybe they we’ll keep there’s.

Is this John Jowers? Yes, a CK26 is a variant of a CK2. The only difference is the size and shape of the deck. I would suggest you make a little video of it running and send that to me or upload to YouTube and share the link here. I won’t say that you’re previous technician is incorrect, but a second opinion might not hurt. I know I’m late to this thread, but the fact that Travis knew the tech, just from a rough description and general area is so impressive! When you say you’ve done this a long time, you are not lying. The community is lucky to have you share your knowledge.

Thank you. I pay attention as all the long time members do. I don’t want to see anyone get entirely discredited, we all make mistakes. I’ve thrown away things that would make most cry.

Very true and same here. I've destroyed more than my share of things just because I didn't know, or, made a bad decision being impatient etc. I think it's what you do after the mistake that matters.

Yep, we all make mistakes. I've made more than my fair share; however I believe that I have learned from them. And, tried to share what I learned so that others don't have to make the same mistakes again. When I was very young, I took compressors out of some fridges I found in abandoned places and ended up letting them ruin. But I learned about what ruins them and what doesn't; and learned how things are put together which still helps me today.
