Hi all , my first post...I was a GE MA Tech for 33yrs.Remember these wall units very well . Made from 1955-58 or maybe 1959.Turquoise,Yellow,Pink,and the rarest-Cadet Blue. Caution on these; as with any refrigeration, purchase should be made only if it can be seen while cooling.Because these were mounted high, circulation was poor and the compressors were short-lived due to excessive heat. While the OEM compressors haven't been available for years.some sort of modified system can be fitted.I have seen many of these fail via evaporator leaks...that is not so easy to overcome. If I recall original installation spec called for 2x6 wall with bolted /plate hardware,a part of the Medallion Home kitchen Pak. I have one of these 1956 wall refers and need to find out what the resistor size is because I think that this is my problem as far as it not working. Can you help?

I am curious what function this resistor performs. I seem to recall a GE fridge having a resistor in series with a warning light that indicated the cabinet temperature wasn't cold enough. Apart from that, a resistor is used with the DR monitor top for the motor start circuit. One could also say that the crankcase heater of DR's and CA's is also a resistor. Another resistor (heater) was mounted in the door frame of some later models to prevent condensation.

It’s part of the control wiring, but I forget. I’ve attempted to pass the inquiry to someone that has had this issue.

9 ohm, unsure of the wattage. I would guess 15-25 Watts

I have never heard of the resistor in these so I also do not know. Will check the model in the Gemline catalog and see if it is listed.

The Gemline catalog and my tech master book both list the model but nothing about a resistor. The wall frig I saw used a Tecumseh "pancake" compressor. I might have some service info on them some were but I don't think a resistor is used with them.

The 1956 model uses the resistor but the 1957 does not
