Re the grommet, I did actually replace it with a similar sized electrical type. So as not to destroy it, I cut it so that it could be slipped over the float valve seat tube once the soldering was done. Then sealed/secured it with silicone sealant. You could cut the original to remove it first, and reuse if it is still in good condition.

Regarding Sil-Fos, it's going to have a melting point nearly as high as brazing (1200-1500F) or bright red heat. Stay Brite 8 has a melting point of 430-535F.
Particularly for parts in proximity to other (heat sensitive) parts I would use the Stay Brite 8. But I use it for nearly everything anyway--
There is also Stay Brite. The Stay Brite 8 has higher silver content, is stronger, and fills better. But costs a bit more. But like I said--
You can also buy fiberglass mats to put around and over stuff to protect from torches, and heat-absorbing paste for the same purpose. Magnets hold fiberglass mats quite nicely.

Not sure where you’re located but try a welding supply store not the big box stores but an auctially welding supplies store . They also handle braising and cutting tools
they might have what you are looking for .
