Ray was a good sport and allowed me to drag him off to Ohio. Aside from the fridge collecting, we were both amazed to see Doug's machine shop. I've visited Doug before, but never really understood just how much he was capable of.
After planning the trip, there was a late addition to the itinerary, a poor DR1 was about to be homeless in central IL. Off we went to pick up the DR1. The weather sucked on Sunday. It rained and snowed all the way. The seller of the DR1 was the most laid back guy and used machinery to load! In my opinion, that picture is priceless.
From Illinois through Indiana it snowed and we couldn't make any speed. Everyone was either quite a poky driver or off the road in a ditch! Thankfully, we stayed on the road. I wasn't interested in finding out just how secure the DR1 really was.
We finally got to Ohio to see Doug and Brandi and his nice dog Leila. I had the upper hand having already visited so Ray was overwhelmed at Doug's collection.
We then went to his shop where he proceeded to make a wrench that should allow Ray to repair his 41 Frigidaire Cold Wall. All we can say is Wow! If either of us lived in Ohio, Doug would get very tired of both of us bringing worn out parts to him. Screw looking for parts on-line when you have a shop!
Doug had decided he had enough projects so I adopted the very nice original DR3B unit and again adopted the DR3 imposter. I have a nice 9 cu ft cabinet that has an FEA unit currently. My feelings toward FEA's is well known, so the swap will bring me great joy. I am hoping that the control on the DR3 imposter can be used on the DR4.
It seems that nearly everyone else has created a way to move these units with machines.
We also visited another friend of mine while there. He had a Victor Orthophonic spring wound phonograph. I already had an electric version, but need to build up my right arm more.
We also got to go to Burger Wagon! Yes, it's an actual wagon! I would taste them all the way home.
I am sure that Ray will add more. He has the shop pictures.
