Its dead unless I give it a heart transplant. I recovered the refrigerant again and cut the line just a head of the cap tube. The oil dripping out looks better than it did last week and end of cab tube lookspretty clean but it now smells for sure of burnt cotton. The windings still show no shorts to ground and have about the same resistance as last week but they must be the reason for the hi watt draw.
The 1/16 hp in it checks com-run 6.4 ohms, com-start 13.2 ohms. Not sure what the original specs where.
The 1/12 hp in the other one checks com-run 4.7 ohms, com to start 8.5 ohms.

Aww, I'm sorry to hear that. I wonder why the motor got burnt? That would support what I've read before about hot cotton windings releasing moisture into the system. You would think that with the high watt draw that the ohm readings would go down. Maybe they are down vs what they originally were. Maybe you can cobble the refrigerant, thermostat, etc into the older unit? I really like the older Frigidaire models.

PO told me it had been starting funny for a long time before it stopped so who knows how many times he let it get hot.

Sounds like the previous owner was retarded and inconsiderate of his vintage refrigerator. Maybe you can transplant the compressor from the unit that Ray and I are bringing you. I bet you can and know you will.

I bet you can and know you will. Could be, the 1/12 hp one has the lines in the wrong place. I could put it in and pipe it up but I don't plan to right now.(gotta concentrate on finding more room first) Guess I will wait and see what is in the one your bringing first.
