Here are the run times for my CA1 form A, serial 6003376 (rebuilt tag). Cabinet Temp 30 degrees Room Temp 76 degrees On @ 14 degrees evaporator Off @ -2 degrees evaporator (measured at thermostat capillary clamp, this is the actual temp the control senses) On Time is 14 minutes Off time is 15 minutes Times are always better with a heavily frosted evap like this one!! 14 mins run time? Something is very wrong there. Should be under about 4.5 mins. I'm jealous. As posted in a different thread, my CA-2-B16 is doing 19-20 minutes on, and 9 minutes off.... which would explain why it costs 25-30 cents a day, when the CK costs me about 10 cents a day.

More run time issues. Put the Form A on a cabinet last night, and about 15 hours later, it's still running. The cabinet temp is 40 degrees, and frost line is all the way up both header tanks, but I can't get the cabinet below 40 degrees. FWIW, the Form B was on the cabinet previously. Maybe had an hour or so of down time (no active cooling). Measured the temp of the cabinet prior to powering up the Form A, and my beer/cabinet was about 48-50 degrees. It seems like something isn't right, if the duty cycle is 100%.

Welcome to the many joys of owning a CA. I love them, but if you have a CA2B, you might as well have a CK2B and have it work.
I've not spent the time and effort to master a CA, that's entirely with Cablehack and ChrisJ. They're the CA masters.

It should start cycling within about 20 mins, with everything starting at room temperature. 40 degrees F cabinet temperature is OK in terms of food preservation, but the fact it isn't cycling means the evaporator is not getting cold enough. As the evaporator is fully frosted, that rules out any oil slugs or other blockages, so it's likely to be the float valve.

Looking forward to getting the DR1 next week, along with other goodies for my upcoming trip out west. With that said, I might stick with CKs and DRs. I will probably keep the CA2A though, since they don't seem nearly as common. I actually won a best offer auction for a CK that's been on ebay for a long time; it's on my return trip from Nor Cal, works, and is a CK2C. Back on topic with this thread - cabinet temps are finally at 38.4 with the dial set on 5. We shall see if it gets any colder later on, and the compressor starts cycling normally. Are cycle times bad like the CAs on a DR?
