https://youtu.be/4dVhdmiC49E Here's one of my favorite pieces of my collection! It's a 1930's Grunow "Carrene" fridge. I made a video about it recently and want to share it so that you can see and hear about some interesting early technology. I have done captions on this video, per request of some viewers who speak English as a second language and find my speech too fast. I hope all benefit from this. Please let me know how helpful it is. It's time consuming to review and edit the captions. Thanks! Sincerely, David

Late to the party but I loved your video on the Grunow. Such an interesting fridge! I loved the sound it made on startup too.

Yes, thank you for sharing that. I haven’t read the whole thing yet but I love how right out of the gate they have SO2 written on a TOMBSTONE. No punches held I guess. Definitely propaganda.

After watching David's video and learning how special these are, I had been keeping an eye out for them. A couple weeks ago, one came up for sale about 5 hours for me. On Saturday, me and a friend made the rode trip to pick it up and bring it home. The story was it had one owner and has lived it's entire life indoors an the lack of rust and overall condition would support that. It fired right up and there was a significant rattle inside the cabinet. That eventually went away and it pulled down to 27 degrees before cycling off. Overall, I am beyond ecstatic with the find. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1eVYCkD53NfwNhlMIeHtjMHURhqqc8Gsg?usp=share_link

Looks like the cabinet is slightly different from mine, with the evaporator set to the side as opposed to mine in the center. Otherwise it's almost identical.

I think mine may be a smaller possibly cheaper model. It doesn’t have the food safety thermometer. It’s either missing the middle shelf or crisper drawers. The shelf that’s on the bottom now would not accommodate drawers

Hello I guess I’m really late to the party ! But jonesake turned me on to one close to where I live Ackorn ohio on eBay So I sent a massage to them I’d like to have a look at it . Weighting for a reply .
Any thing I should be looking for in per titular ? wiring I know we’ll be circumspect . Are the moter feeds like the Westinghouse prone to deteriorate ? Open to suggestions.
Very nice job on the video Turbo

Very nice job on the video Turbo Just a quick reply.... Thanks for the compliment on the video! No worries about the compressor motor. Uses dichloromethane which does not have corrosive properties like SO2. It is available if needed, as well.

I’ve only just seen the video - very interesting, and thanks for posting it! Given the operating similarities between the Grunow and CA monitor top, I’ve often thought that dichloromethane would be a possible methyl formate alternative.
