I did a short recording of my CA boiling tonight. It had a much more violent boiling sound with the bad float valve. Now it has a quiet crackling sound. youtu.be/l1XmCE_qR7E

Hey wait a second. You have Fla-Vor-Ice in your monitor top? Did they freeze? I tried some a while back and it seemed like they didn't want to freeze so I gave up. Maybe I didn't leave them in long enough?

Some of them freeze, some turn to slush. My CK freezes them solid. I have to keep them on hand, though. My dog loves them.

Does your CK have a door on the evaporator? I've wondered if hunting down a CK door would fit my CA and if it would solve the problem or not.

No. I don't have a door on my evap.

Ah. I guess it's just the slightly colder running CK evaporator and the fact the bottom section is surrounded by refrigerant where the CA has the so called "deadshelf" that just conducts some cooling from the sides.
It's amazing each series got better and stronger, up until the CK. The CK seems like it topped out in reliability, energy consumption, quietness and even power. All of the stuff after it was no better in any way and was worse in some.

My D35 does better in freezing that I expected it to, at least in the left evap. It has the 2 smaller cubby holes that do a good job of surrounding the contents with coldness.

Have you measured power consumption on the D35? Any idea how many kwh it uses per month?

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but how useful are these readings? Unless Doug were to swap the D35 with his CK35 using the same cabinet and room, the results would fluctuate with these other variables.

I just want to reassure myself that my 11 cubic foot DR is more efficient (at 29 degrees) than a 7 cubic foot CA

By the way, I've looked all over this machine. Every little nook and cranny. Nowhere can I find it's EnergyStar Seal of Approval. I'm kind of disapointed.
