A neighbor brought this Philco to me for rewiring. His parents bought it new! After taking it apart, him and his wife decided to repaint it as well. I took it to the shop where I have my cars painted and had a professional do it. I'll share pictures as I get it back together!
Started out off-white, but actually the paint you see is a brush painted layer of house paint.
Rear is a little beat up, but not too bad.
That handle looks a little sorry.
Note the storage drawer at the bottom. Not refrigerated; mainly for bread I believe.
The compressor is made by Philco. It's got the name embossed into the case on the top.
I put two wood boards in there to support the compressor, while cleaning the interior of the bottom. Then also had the fridge painted while the compressor was cantilevered out.
Now, in a fresh coat of International Harvester "Corn Flower Blue" with clearcoat.
Breaker strips, evaporator door, and trim going back on...
Hope to get more of it back together soon!

Did you write the instructions on the back, i.e. "transport vertically if possible, otherwise..."?

Did you write the instructions on the back, i.e. "transport vertically if possible, otherwise..."? LOL no, but I did strongly caution the owner about laying it down in a position where the oil would go into the lines from the compressor. He laid it town in the back of a pickup truck to bring it here. When they arrived with it, that warning was on there. I will be really disappointed if they lay it down at all, with the new paint!!!

So, got the Philco back together! It looks pretty snazzy, if I do say so!
I repaired the handle by filling it with metal reinforced Bondo, and then painting it. First I tried it with the white handle like original, but the white handle on the blue cabinet looked awful. Painted it silver and it looks a lot better. But at least the taped-together, cracked and extremely ghetto handle is gone.
All the acoustic insulation is new. I got that at a local HVAC shop. This is duct liner insulation. The original was all shredded and nasty.
More new duct liner insulation in the rear cover as well.
All the hardware is new stainless. Not period correct, but it beats the rusty stuff that was in there.
Looking sharp!
The PHILCO letters cleaned up nicely. I sonicated them in Zep Purple degreaser.
The non-refrigerated storage drawer is back in.
New gasket in place.
Hopefully this one is going home next week!

I really like how that turned out. How neat! I usually don’t like colors other than white but I do like this color. I also like that philco made their own compressor. It’s so funky looking. I hope it runs great for them.

I hope it runs great for them. Thanks! I'm with you on the colors. Normally white is the color I would chose. However, the owner and his wife are moving to a coastal town into a home with lots of pastel, open air, bright décor. They had their move planned before deciding on a color. It's light enough not to be too "Disney park" looking, but dark enough not to look faded or boring.
Yeah, that compressor is unique. It looks like a cross between a Westinghouse and a Frigidaire, in my opinion. I bet, by the time Philco decided to design their own compressor; most patents were expired. Probably they could just build one using a straightforward design without worrying about patents. It is very quiet, and I would not be surprised if it is a rotary design. Sounds very much like the Frigidaire Meter-Miser.

Is it bad that I really want to see the inside of that compressor? Now I need to look up info on Philcos!

Looks snazzy. Unfortunately, It looks like I don't have any reference material that describes the philco compressor. It does look like they might have harvested expired patents.

That is a pretty little fridge! Really unique looking. I first noticed it on the video of the CK you rewired.
The color looked more periwinkle in the video but in most of these pictures it looks more pastel. I'm guessing it is more of a pastel blue than a deeper one?
