I just found this on Craigslist and wanted to share it with you guys. I showed it to Travis, he thought it's a rebranded General Electric HE model. If so, it's the elusive belt drive GE. Someone here ought to rescue it. Chris

I've requested better pictures and more of them. I don't recall any active members in that area.

There are a surprising number still out there. I do tend to see them more in the Midwest. I attribute that to lower land value and more storage.
Most in California wouldn't have a garage full of precious antiques, the space is too valuable.

Whats the chance it still holds a charge? I think this Hotpoint needs to make a trip to the midwest!

The decal shows it to be a CB2 which I think is 1934. It was the cheaper option for those who couldn't afford the hermetic monitor top.

Very nice shape it looks great. It looks very similar an early Westinghouse but they weren’t belt drive.

It seems like the compressor is not original. It doesn’t look like the picture that John posted. It looks like a more conventional piston type. Still cool though.

My guess is that the original was a bad design. The replacement looks old and professionally done.

You're correct, cablecheck, my '49 Hotpoint Book lists unit number CB-2 as a 1933-34 model. Also says the fridge should be model number HP7A & B.

Out of curiosity, what was the market positioning of the hotpoint brand of that era compared to General Electric? Was it seen as more upmarket than GE, cheaper, or about the same?
