I don't want to keep messing up the guys fan thread with my general questions about FEA so I figured I'd start a new thread. It's the bigger cabinet. Here is a pic of one of my other Monitor top.. This one doesn't cool well but the fan works.. LOL Go figure..

By the way I'm not just going to ask what this is I'm also going to be working on it and asking questions for help.. I don't want to ask questions and mess up another thread that has nothing to do with what I'm asking. Thanks for your help..

That cabinet is from 1931 or 32 and would have had a D2 on it.

Sometimes there is a sticker on the bottom of the cabinet. Telling you the exact cabinet type.

No sticker I just looked.. Well, see; There's the problem with meticulous housekeeping-- Those little paper stickers don't stand washing or scrubbing.....

You will have to get a hermetic service kit to charge the system. You can find them on eBay sometimes. There should be a port sticking out of the side of the compressor. That is where you will charge it.

Like the plastic shrink-wrap around the top of a bottle of pills. You have to peel the plastic off to access the spline valve. But be advised-- remove the seal and your factory warranty is invalidated.........

Ok I've looked on ebay and read on here for about 2 hours with no luck finding what kit I need to buy to put the Freon in... Does the FEA use the same tools as the earlier models? Also I read about buying an OS type tool instead of another one. I don't mind buying a tool but I don't want to buy something that's not going to work. Thanks for your help..

Thank you for posting them, I seen both of those kits but I wasn't sure if that's what I needed... Now I know what to look for.. I also read that thread... I'm just learning this stuff but there is a lot still to learn... Thanks again..

Ok I worked on this unit since all my tools had come in.. I got it set up and was drawing a vacuum and I could tell I had several leaks in the kit and my lines.. I got them to stop leaking, the rubber grommets and one copper gasket was bad... I got it to pull down to 20lbs I figured that was pretty good? I let it sit for about 30min and it held..
I got my freon set it up.. I remembered that this unit didn't cool the entire evaporator only the back half so I figured it could be stopped up with hardened oil so I'd try the hot water trick.. Let it sit for about 30 min.. Started it up it sucked the R12 freon right in 11oz of it that's what the tag said it needed.. Low and behold it was frosting all the way to the front of the evaporator..
It ran cooled ran and cooled just fine for about an hour.. Then all of a sudden it started making a vibrating sound and stopped cooling. Shut it off when I finally figured it out it was coming from the condenser... I got me a hair dryer thinking it was some oil that was hard and blocked a passage... I heated up all the lines and tapped on them...
Started it back up and so far so good, It's running quiet just as before...
