It looks like the latch and badge from an Edison cabinet, but the normal hinges.
I want it, but I've promised myself to refrain from untested DR's from far away places.

I have to agree with Travis. It looks like his Edison cabinet but not quite. Very neat. I would imagine that most type A controls got replaced pretty early on.

If it were a day trip away, I'd attempt to snatch it up. Perhaps it's for the best. sheeplady wants me to focus my energy on finishing the ones we have, rather than retrieving new ones anyway.

Ha! Thats better than what i hear! My girlfriend likes them, even likes that i put my CK in the house but still, she calls me a hoarder lol! I cannot help it! "Where'd that one come from, you got another one?!" "Im not real sure how that got here...." If it were a day trip away, I'd attempt to snatch it up. Perhaps it's for the best. sheeplady wants me to focus my energy on finishing the ones we have, rather than retrieving new ones anyway.

Like Travis said if teleportation was here they would be popping in from all over the place . That one looks pretty rough I'd be afraid of it . The little DR1 was in much better shape and it was close to this one .

The little DR1 was in much better shape and it was close to this one . Teleportation would be great, there's a lot of risk and expense in hiring ground transport. It would also be good if we could store them in another dimension (one that doesn't occupy any apparent physical space in this universe, but is only a few feet away) until they're ready to be restored and put into action. Our DR3 came rougher than that*. The prospect of filling them with R124 has removed any fear in my mind, though. I have the thing for hard-luck cases, and would love an opportunity to re-wind one some day! * The key difference about the DR3 is that it was fairly convenient for us to pick up, and cheap enough to bear the risk. We were moving, we needed a truck anyway, and it was only an hour away.

Huh, I think I inadvertently ran across this cabinet in a 1927 retail salesman's handbook; it looks like an R-52 It has textolite looking strips, the same latch + hinge combination, and appears to be the same dimensions (based on the with of the cabinet with respect to the width of the base of the icing unit). The full handbook is here: archive.org/details/RetailSalesmansHandbookOnGERefrigeratorsIf the images in the handbook are to believed, it is the only one without the woven racks (well, except for the tiny S-32 cabinet).

Indeed. If it was $75 and an hour away I'd take the chance. But nearly to Canada from here--? Have Scotty beam it down and I'm good.....

I like the hand book would that print out ok ? Dunno, it looks decent on screen, but that can be deceptive sometimes (and vice versa). I think there are various formats to download, including pdf. That'd be the one to try.

Well, curiosity got the best of me.
The seller said it works, and so does the foot pedal.
...and so does the foot pedal...
I don't know what to say, that was not at all the answer I was expecting.
/me scratches head.

The shipping would be more than fridg cost but that's your call . I think I would go for one of the cas Travis posted , better shape and you have a dr if I remember right. And if you're going to be a collector you need different models.

And if you're going to be a collector you need different models. The CAs are common enough that something local and reasonable will pop up sooner or later. That DR is unusual as it is one of the earliest variants; earliest cabinet type, earliest control, etc. One that I've certainly never seen for sale before. This one is _just_ on the edge of distance. So anyway, just doing due diligence to see if it is feasible to save this one. It may not. Heck, it might not be the one in the photo, given the seller's mention that the foot pedal is working...

Yeah that "foot pedal" comment seems about 3 kinds of weird.
Maybe that latch was way ahead of it's time. The experimental bluetooth model. Wave your foot under it and the door opens, like the Ford minivans--
